When we think of graffiti spray-painted t-shirts, dolphin keychains, and Hello Kitty baseball caps, we used to just picture some sad, trapped-in-time kiosk at the mall, but pop star Zara Larsson has officially changed all of that. Now, the “Midnight Sun” singer has completely revamped all of our favorite Y2K styles and flipped them on its head—making rhinestones, hot pink, and oversized hair flower pins totally wearable again.
But we wouldn’t be the Ipsters we are if we didn’t take time to honor the true standout of Zara’s looks: her makeup. Whether she’s rocking neon eyeshadows, metallic glitter dust, rhinestones appliqués, or all of the above, she knows how to make a makeup look stand out. But while layering up multiple bold looks at once might work for the stage, we’re more interested in how to rock Zara’s early-aughts look IRL. If you want to take a nod from the sun-kissed queen herself, we’re breaking down how to rock all of Zara Larsson’s signature looks with our favorite IPSY products.
It's about glam time you treated yourself.

Is wearing hot pink out of character for you? Make it a moment with matching eye makeup. But instead of going full out sunset ray-of-light colors with your eyes the way Zara did, try a subtle dusting of pink that can be built up as you see fit.
For example, heading out to the club with your besties on Valentine’s Day is the perfect time to rock the more amped-up version of this look. The key to the color staying put? Eyeshadow primer. We love the APPEAL COSMETICS Hydrating Eyeshadow Primer for this because it hydrates eyes that have been stripped of life due to the harsh winter air. From there, reach for the KIMCHI CHIC BEAUTY Chic Color Bundle that is totally buildable and has shades with glitter so you can dab on a little sparkle.
Pick your favorite colors—in this case, Zara happened to choose turquoise, lime green, and hot pink—and go to town creating your look. But to make this look a bit more wearable IRL, narrow your color choices to just two and don’t take the eyeshadow colors all the way to the brow. Grab a light green shade and pat it into the inner corner of your eye using a dense eyeshadow brush, like the shortest brush in the M.I.A BY MASSIEL Eye-Brush Trio. Then grab the slightly larger brush and start packing in a complementary blue shade. Finally, grab the largest, fluffiest brush and blend the two colors together creating a cohesive midnight sun rainbow.
No one would blink twice if you lined your eyes in a neon-colored eyeliner, except maybe to pay you a compliment. Try swapping out your typical black and brown liners for something a bit more eye-catching. Instead of adding a contrasting eyeshadow color on top of your lids the way Zara did here, just pick a hot pink eyeliner and draw it across the top lid like you normally would to line your eyes. Something like the MAC Chromagraphic Liner Pencil is perfect for this because it stays in place all day since it’s water-resistant.
This is probably the most wearable Zara Larsson look we came across, and it’s even easier to recreate at home. The secret is concentrating the snow-white color to the inner corners of the eyes and spreading it outward. From there, grab a silver glitter eyeliner, like the URBAN DECAY Moondust Liquid Glitter Eyeliner and trace a line of it across the entire top of your eyelid close to the waterline. Wear this makeup look with an all-white outfit so you truly embody the Y2K era. Want to tone this look down even further? Just stick with the glitter eyeliner and skip the white eyeshadow altogether.
Consider this your permission slip to dust off the glitter, embrace a little early-aughts chaos, and make it feel modern, fun, and totally you. When in doubt, start small, and let your makeup have main character energy. For all the products you need to bring Zara’s Y2K glam into your own routine, you know where to find us: the IPSY Shop.
